Phanto Zone

Enjoy the thrill of Corbett’s most visited safari zone

About Phanto Zone

Phanto is Corbett’s new star, a beautifully forested zone with a dramatic gate drive and significantly fewer vehicles than the classic areas, making it an excellent choice for those who prefer quiet tracks, dense Sal forests, and the feeling of exploring a relatively untouched side of Corbett.

Phanto Eco Tourism Zone is a premier wilderness destination within the Terai West Forest Range created as Buffer Zone of Corbett Tiger Reserve. Inaugurated in late 2021, it is celebrated for being one of Uttarakhand’s densest forest areas, offering visitors a raw and immersive jungle experience.

The Phanto Experience

The zone spans approximately 2,516 hectares and serves as a vital corridor for wildlife. It is particularly famous for:

Diverse Wildlife: Frequent sightings of the Royal Bengal Tiger, leopards, Asian elephants, and various deer species.
Birdwatcher’s Paradise: Home to over 365 species of birds, making it a top destination for avian photography.
Unique Terrain: Lush green landscapes, natural water reservoirs, and giant structures like the Tumdiya Dam nearby.

Flora & Fauna

The zone is dominated by dense Sal and mixed forests, along with natural clearings and seasonal streams that support tigers, elephants, leopards, deer, and a variety of birdlife, while frequent signs such as pugmarks and alarm calls add to the experience even when big cats remain hidden.

Safari Experience

Safaris in Phanto feel immersive and intimate, with long uninterrupted stretches of forest where it’s just your gypsy, the track, and the sounds of the jungle, as our naturalists encourage you to slow down, read the forest, and appreciate everything from woodpeckers and langurs to the excitement of fresh tiger tracks on a damp road.

Night Stay Options

A night stay in the Phanto Zone is allowed from 15th November to 14th June. Accommodations are designed to be eco-friendly and basic, focusing on the thrill of the forest rather than luxury.

The standout attraction of the zone, these wooden tree houses are built on tall trees deep within the dense forest. Each unit typically accommodates two adults, offering a unique “lap of nature” experience. Permits are often handled offline through the forest department.

Forest Rest House Phanto

Features both heritage-style buildings from the British period and newer structures. Stays here often include two jeep safaris (morning and evening) to maximize wildlife sighting opportunities.

Various themed accommodations like the Canopy Castle, Great Hornbill, and Kingfisher Castle provide nature-inspired lodging. These are simple, clean rooms that integrate with the surrounding environment.

How to Reach

Phanto Gate is accessed via Ramnagar, with a short road transfer from your resort to the entry point, and our team shares exact reporting times while coordinating everything a day before your drive so you reach the gate comfortably in advance.
